An image of a lonely woman hiker sitting on a mountain

I'm being a pessimist, but the most important aspect of hiking is adopting a realistic attitude. And realistically speaking, whether you're male or female; the risks are rock solid. It's not smart for any adult to travel the unknown alone.

Let's Calculate The Actual Threats of Hiking

Like any real-life undertaking be it business, marriage, educational, or even outdoor adventures. You should side-by-side compare the pros and cons.

  1. I actually spotted an online resource that clearly describes the most unbiased long distance walk threats.
  2. Now after reading that, fit your hiking experience, self-defence skills and maturity into each scenario.
  3. Then consider yourself in the most dangerous outdoor situation and try to picture the out come.
Are You Still Alive And Kicking?

It's not safe to go hiking alone, whether you're male or female. Hiking in a group is the number one, safety precaution.

You may get lucky with a few short trips, until you reach a point where two, three, four or more brains; would have been better than one.

Experts highly recommend group hiking journeys. Of course you get a few dare devils that wants to prove their independence and self reliance; until something goes wrong.

Imagine Getting Trapped In A Dark Pit?

It happens all the time and there'll be nobody to help you. If you're thinking getting sucked in by quick sand, falling from a cliff or into an old water well, or getting attacked by strangers, or perhaps a stroke; may sound a little too far fetched.

Until you read this story of a solo female hiker who got lost for a number of days. Sorry to say it didn't end well! If you're really a die hard loner and want to seriously prove a point.

You may want to learn from this solo female hiker. As a matter-of-fact; you should always make room for disappointments; because bad things happen all the time.

Not to say that I'm only vote for organised group hiking teams, or suggestively selling my ways of thinking. Although things might sometimes pan out for a little while. Don't be fooled!

You must always plan with opportunitistic hiking risks in mind. Why? Because there are always two sides of every story. Just like there is a day to every night.

When it comes to outdoor journeys, things happen: People get lost, trapped, or badly injured. Then it might be a little too late to change your plans. Right?

In Summary

Like a baby who first learn to crawl, then walk and later run. So must you strategically approach your hiking endeavours. First learn the ropes by joining an experienced, learn to master it, before even consider going solo hiking.

Because when you think of your goals, you tend to think in general terms. But when you actually walk-the-walk.

The real painful details, emotions and challenges; has a tendency of coming alive. Which may not seem as glamorous as your first imagined it.

Although hiking is a mind blowing adventure, if it's done right!

Most often; only success stories gets published. But what about the deadly mistakes? If you are a female, or male looking to hike alone.

At least consider the real life threats. Examples such as wild animal attacks, criminals, slippery slopes, crumbling rock trails, avalanches, or even extreme weather conditions. If you're still up for it! Then proceed with your high risk lonely adventure on foot. But remember you're on your own!
